LPP Laboratory Seminar: Davide DEL CONT-BERNARD, Postdoctoral researcher at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, will give a talk "Towards a conscious use of EFISH for the quantification of the electric field in discharges relevant to plasma-assisted combustion"

Abstract:
Electric Field Induced Second Harmonic generation (EFISH) is a popular technique to perform electric field measurements in discharges and non-thermal plasmas. It has recently been shown that the EFISH signal builds up along the laser path for distances significantly longer than the Rayleigh range. This prevents point measurements and complicates calibrations. In this talk, after a critical introduction of the EFISH technique, a novel deconvolution-like procedure is proposed to overcome the mentioned limitations. Numerical and experimental examples are provided, and as a demonstration, the full procedure is applied to the study of NRP discharges in heterogeneous media. The remaining open challenges will also be discussed.
