The original text of Victor’s thesis, « Turbulent heating and Anisotropy in the Solar Wind », has been proposed to Springer by Paris-Sud university (it was somewhat rewritten to satisfy Springer’s constraints).
To study this question, Victor solves numerically the equations of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) between 0.2 and one astronomical unit, also accounting for the anisotropic expansion of a plasma volume embedded in the radial mean wind. In his thesis, Victor studies on the one hand the competition between turbulence and expansion, and the formation of observable structures, and on the other hand the dissipation resulting from the turbulent cascade and the resulting heating of the plasma. The results so obtained compare favorably with observations of the anisotropy and of the slow cooling of the proton temperature.
