Selection of Labex Plas@Par “Plasmas in Paris, beyond the frontiers”- the whole LPP is concerned

The Labex Plas@Par, supported by Sorbonne Université, has been selected in February 2012. The project brings together over 140 scientists from Ile de France working on plasmas in different sectors.
Plas@Par is an interdisciplinary LABEX, at the frontiers of Physics, Astrophysics, Physical Chemistry and Engineering Science with strong links with Applied Mathematics and Computing Sciences.
Plas@Par is composed of teams from five main laboratories: LERMA, LPP, LULI, INSP, LCPMR, and a team of ONERA. Scientists from CPHT, IAS, LJLL, LESIA and LKB laboratories are also associated.

The project comprises three work packages which cover six themes at the forefront of plasma research: (i) Turbulence, instabilities and energy transport, (ii) Magnetic reconnection, (iii) Shocks, (iv) Matter under extreme conditions, (v) Plasmas in molecular gases, (vi) Interaction of plasmas with solids and liquids.

The work packages are briefly summarised here:
 Fundamental processes in plasmas
 Developing the numerical factory
 Innovative experiments and observations

Those work packages cover 6 items:
(i) Turbulence, instabilities and energy transport
(ii) Magnetic reconnection
(iii) Shocks
(iv) Matter in extreme conditions
(v) Plasmas in molecular gases
(vi) Plasma interactions with solids and liquids

All LPP researchers are involved in this Labex which, like the LPP, focuses on plasma physics in general. LPP is concerned mainly with the following areas: Low-density plasmas in solar system (Earth’s and planets’ magnetospheres, solar Wind), Moderate-density plasmas from low to high temperatures ( laboratory plasmas, stellar atmospheres and tokamaks).
