Résumé  :
In space and astrophysical plasmas, turbulence mediates the nonlinear transfer of energy from violent events and motions at large scales down to small scales at which the energy of the turbulence may be converted to plasma heat. The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) description has been traditionally used to study plasma turbulence. But in many environments, such as the solar corona and solar wind, the turbulent dynamics on the small scales at which the dissipation mechanisms act is weakly collisional, so a kinetic description is generally required.
This tutorial seminar will establish the foundation for the evolving theory of kinetic turbulence. Building from our understanding of hydrodynamic and MHD turbulence, a model for kinetic turbulence will be constructed, focusing on the nonlinear dynamics responsible for the turbulent cascade, the physical mechanisms responsible for dissipating the turbulence, and the development of coherent structures. Recent
results based on nonlinear kinetic simulations will be reviewed, culminating in a new dynamical, rather than statistical, model of turbulence in kinetic plasmas that combines the physics of Alfven waves with the self-consistent development of current sheets.
