Résumé  :
Gyrokinetics is a reduced kinetic description of weakly collisional plasma dynamics that was initially developed as an efficient description of the low-frequency turbulent dynamics occurring in the laboratory plasmas of the magnetic confinement fusion program. As researchers in space physics and astrophysics in the last decade have begun to tackle seriously the issues of the nonlinear dynamics and the dissipation of plasma turbulence under weakly collisional plasmaconditions, gyrokinetics has proven to be an invaluable tool. This tutorial seminar will present the formalism of gyrokinetics, discuss its applicability and limitations in physical terms, and highlight the differences between the turbulence in laboratory plasmas and astrophysical plasmas. The applicability of gyrokinetics to turbulence in the solar wind will be discussed in detail, and specific results validating the use of gyrokinetics for grand challenge problems in space physics will be presented.
