Abraham Chian (Observatoire de Paris - LESIA & INPE-Brazil) - Nonlinear dynamics of Alfvén waves and turbulence

Lieu : Palaiseau, salle à préciser

Alfvén waves play a fundamental role in turbulence in space and laboratory plasmas. For example, geomagnetic activities can be driven by nonlinear Alfvén waves embedded in the solar wind turbulence. This talk will address the theory and observation of Alfvénwaves and turbulence. First, we show how chaos theory, discovered by Poincaré in 1890, can elucidate the origin of Alfvén intermittency. Second, we analyze the influence of noise in Alfvén intermittency. Third, we discuss the relation between Alfvén waves, magnetic reconnections and intermittent turbulence in the solar wind using in-situ spacecraft observation.
