Abstract :
Low frequency intermittent ionospheric waves studied with sounding rocket experiment. Low frequency longitudinal waves can be excited by plasma instabilities in the Earth’s ionospheric E-region. The waves have been detected by radar scattering as well as by instrumented rockets. The aim of the present study is to analyse the direction of electrostatic wave propagation in the high latitude E-region turbulence. This study includes an intermittency analysis for the long-wave part of the spectrum. We introduce an intermittency definition which differs from the structure function analysis usally applied for turbulence studies. We believe the results to have general interest and applicability also for other types of turbulence studies.
