Title : A Three-dimensional MHD Simulation of the Solar Corona and Solar Wind with Turbulence Transport and Heating

Abstract : I present results from a fully three-dimensional MHD solar corona and solar wind model that takes into account effects of turbulence on the flow and vice versa. Turbulence transport equations for turbulence energy, cross helicity, and correlation length are coupled and solved concurrently with Reynolds-averaged solar wind equations in the region from the coronal base to the outer heliosphere, beyond the termination shock. Boundary conditions are specified at the base of solar corona using either simple models, e.g., a tilted dipole, or directly using solar magnetograms. The model is applied to study the heating, acceleration and three-dimensional properties of the solar corona and solar wind. Some of the limitations and challenges will be described. The simulations are compared with Ulysses observations during its first (1994-1995) and third (2007-2008) fast latitude transits. The model should be useful for establishing context for the Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter missions
