Christophe Blondel and Cyril Drag join LPP

Christophe Blondel and Cyril Drag, respectively research director and research fellow (HDR) at the CNRS, formerly at the Aimé-Cotton laboratory (UMR CNRS 9188 in Orsay), officially joined the LPP on October 1, 2017. Since 2013, their team has been coordinating the SiPhoRE ANR project to demonstrate the interest and feasibility of magnetically controlled fusion of photodetached D0 injectors [1] (also supported by Eurofusion through FR-FCM). Since 2015, they have been collaborating with Olivier Guaitella and Jean-Paul Booth on laser diagnostic experiments in plasmas, during which they have incidentally found a way (reflexes of spectroscopists not extinguished!) to swallow the spectrum of atomic oxygen levels and measure an isotopic displacement that was previously only known by calculation [2]. Their installation in Palaiseau will make it possible to extend this collaboration to other LPP teams.

Dispositif expérimental construit au LAC pour démontrer la possibilité de photodétacher presque complètement un faisceau accéléré de H- ou de D-. , pour le chauffage des plasmas de fusion confinés magnétiquement.
Le cœur de l’appareil est une cavité optique triangulaire suspendue, de longueur totale 1 m et de finesse supérieure à 3000, qui multiplie par un facteur 900 la puissance lumineuse injectée, de façon à soumettre le faisceau d’ions à un éclairement suffisant pour faire tendre le rendement de photodétachement vers l’unité.
