Parker Solar Probe (2018)

The NASA Parker Solar Probe mission has been launched On August 12th, 2018. It will be the first spacecraft to go into the solar atmosphere, down to 10 solar radii from the surface. It will explore the solar corona, the key region to understand the heating and acceleration processes of the solar wind.

Get as close to the Sun is a big technological challenge.

The main scientific objectives are:

  • study of the heating of the corona and of the solar wind acceleration
  • study of the production and transport of solar energetic particles
