STAFF experiment
THE STAFF experiment consists in three main components, an alternative tri-axial magnetometer and its preamplifiers measuring the magnetic components of the waves in the frequency range 0.1 Hz - 4 kHz (see below) and two data processing onboard units. The first one filters, digitizes and transmits the waveforms up to 10 or 180 Hz. The second one, a spectrum analyzer (STAFF SA), calculates the coefficients of the complex spectral matrix formed by the five components of the electromagnetic waves, 3 x B from STAFF and 2 x E from the electric fields experiment (EFW), in the frequency range 8 Hz - 4 kHz. The magnetic sensors and the waveform unit have been made under the responsibility of CETP (now LPP), while STAFF SA was designed and developed by the plasma team of LESIA (Observatoire de Paris- Meudon).
